EPA Moves to Delist a Portland Superfund Cleanup Site
Portland's Heron Lakes Golf Course became a federal Superfund site nine years ago and this week the Environmental Protection Agency proposed not requiring clean up after all.
The North Portland site is contaminated with heavy metals, PCBs and DDT by waste-oil recyclers including the Bonneville Power Administration, Chevron, and Portland General Electric - and these corporations would be on the hook for any EPA-mandated clean up costs.
For more, KBOO’s Joe Meyer spoke with Mark Stephan of the citizen’s advisory committee and Suzanne Skadowski with the EPA.
