A Different Nature explores the music of MAJA RATJKE

Tonight on A Different Nature, host Danielle Parks continues her long-running series (and some would say long-overdue) focusing on the very wide world of under-appreciated, amazingly talented and intensely brilliant women composers and performers in experimental music--from the avant-garde classical to the raw punk cutting edge, Danielle searches out and finds artists largely unknown (or little-known) and showcases their works over the airwaves to give some of these amazing artists more of the recognition they deserve.

Tonight we explore the young but quite accomplished Norwegian composer and vocalist Maja Ratjke.

“Anyone who has seen or heard Ratkje perform live will know what a superb musician she is, and one who can genuinely be said to be extending the expressive range of the voice through technical and technological means…. Her work is celebratory and inclusive, an energising rallying call to those who are curious enough to peek out from behind the curtain of mainstream mediocrity.” The Wire 2006

“Even within a piece she shows more originality than many composers in a lifetime.” Brainwashed 2008

“Ratkje is one of the most astonishing singers on the planet.” Chicago Reader 2005
