Contentious Council meeting has overflow crowd and impassioned testimony

At a contentious and sometimes raucous meeting Monday evening, the Cascade Locks City Council passed a resolution declaring its opposition to Ballot Measure 14-55, the initiative to ban large-scale commercial water bottling operations in Hood River County.

The measure, promoted by the Cascade Locks-based Local Water Alliance, will be voted on in the upcoming primary on May 17.

The Council’s Resolution, declares that the ballot measure is a “direct threat to the City’s home rule, local control, right to self-sufficiency, and its economic future.”

The Resolution also encourages voters in Cascade Locks and Hood River County to vote against the measure

It was passed by a vote of six to one, with only one Council member voting against it.

KBOO reporter Paul Roland reports
