A deeper look behind the day's top stories

President Obama came out in favor of ‘net neutrality’ for Internet Providers on Monday. The statement was made as the FCC is about to decide how far the government should go in order to protect consumers from broadband companies.

One of the central issues being addressed in the debate is the creation of so-called internet “fastlanes” by companies such as Verizon and Comcast.

Content companies like netflix would have special access to the “fastlanes”, putting the individual consumer at a relative disadvantage.

Industry lobbyists such as the National Cable and Telecommunications association quickly lambasted the President’s statement. In a related development, net neutrality advocates blockaded the home of FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler this morning. KBOO spoke today with Kevin Zeese, co-director of Popular Resistance about the blockade.
