Special one-hour on Shakespeare this summer. More companies are performing the Bard and Dmae talks with three groups: Northwest Classical Theatre Company, Post 5 Theatre at Milepost 5 & the historic Portland Actors Ensemble's Shakespeare in the Park. Tune in 11am -noon on Tues 6/19 on KBOO 90.7FM.
At 11am, director Butch Flowers tells us about Northwest Classical Theatre Company's Measure For Measure which opens Friday June 22nd and runs through July 15 th (Thursday, Friday, and Saturday at 7:30pm Sunday at 2pm) at the Shoe Box Theater (2110 SE 10th Avenue) in Portland.
Measure For Measure focuses on Angelo, who is asked to rule by the Duke of Vienna (who pretends to leave town but instead dresses as a friar to observe the goings-on in his absence). Angelo is strict, moralistic, and unwavering in his decision-making; he arrests and condemns a young man (Claudio) for impregnating his lover before marriage. Isabella, Claudio's sister, is about to enter a nunnery when her brother is arrested. When she hears of her brother's arrest, she goes to Angelo to beg him for mercy. He refuses, but suggests that there might be some way to change his mind.
Then at 11:25 am, Dmae talks with Milepost 5's Claire Willett and Post 5's Theatre's Ty Boice about the Summer of Shakespeare Festival with numerous companies. Post 5 Theatre is also offering two productiosn of their own in the courtyard at Milespost 5.
