Short Description:
What if the Arizona shooter had been a Muslim? What if accused Arizona shooter Jared Loughner had been a Muslim? Host Lisa Loving speaks with Sara Robinson, senior fellow at the Campaign for America's Future? The shooting in Arizona is the result of twenty years of conservative media propagating violent rhetoric against liberal Americans. This is what domestic terrorism looks like, and we would be much faster to call it that if the shooter had been a Muslim.

Youth & Violence
The news is full of evidence that our youth are inclined toward violence. Studies show that violent behavior everywhere is most common among those around 17 years of age, but that culture is a better predictor of violence than age. The dominant culture of the USA is one of the most violent ever.
Military recruiters and trainers capitalize on the youthful tendency to behave violently, in spite of valient efforts of Veterans for Peace to bring truth to potential recruits. For decades the USA has been training youth to kill or be killed, equiping them with high tech weaponry, and unleashing them upon people from the other side of the planet. This behavior serves none but the war profiteers, but we keep doing it.
I was aghast to learn that the Corvallis based unit of the National Guard got an award for participating in the Falluja Turkey Shoot. There was nothing noble in this masacre, where civilians were shot from rooftops. Are such "heroes" good examples for our youth?
Youth need rites of passage, giving them opportunity to prove their courage and to serve their community by risking their own safety. To find heroes who have proven themselves as adults, we need look no further than the local fire department. Let us honor the brave young adults who have saved lives, rather than those who have taken them.
