Carl will speak at the KBOO screening of the film "Talk Radio" Thursday, Jan 10, 7:00pm at the Clinton Street Theater, 2522 SE Clinton St.

During the 1980s and 1990s, Carl was a leading stand-up comedian and a frequent guest on national television, appearing on HBO, Showtime’s Comedy Club Network, VH-1’s Stand-Up Spotlight, An Evening at the Improv and The Joan Rivers Show.

On KPOJ, Carl originally shared hosting duties with Thom Hartmann and Heidi Tauber. For two years, beginning in mid-2008, Carl co-hosted with Christine Alexander, and the station reached record ratings after the historic election of Barack Obama.

It is so exciting to hear Carl's voice this morning! We have been like a group in mourning, grieving over the loss of a whole host of old friends.
There needs to be an organization dedicated to the preservation of the solid-state, accessible technology of terrestrial radio. (It seems to be the only media technology relatively free of data-mining, as well.). The digitization of television limited access for those not in possession of digital technology.  The same thing is happening to radio, and it's looking like the fallout will be far worse. Personally, in trying to recapture all the am progressive voices through digital access, it feels like the dark ages in that after prolific searches to find the times for particular hosts and getting the right player setup, the stream doesn't play! Is that sometimes from user overload?
A citizen can simply turn on a portable radio, going about their day indoors or outdoors, simply turning it on (notice the dated terminology "turning") and the dialogue is open to all!
