Medea Benjamin on Drone Warfare (lecture)

Medea Benjamin on Drone Warfare (lecture)

Activist Medea Benjamin, cofounder of CODEPINK and Global Exchange, was one of 1000 exemplary women from 140 countries nominated to receive the Nobel Peace Prize on behalf of millions of women who do the essential work of peace worldwide. She has worked to stop the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and to promote a U.S. foreign policy respectful of human rights. Her work for justice in Israel/Palestine includes taking numerous delegations to Gaza after the 2008 Israeli invasion, organizing the Gaza Freedom March in 2010, participating in Freedom Flotillas, and opposing the policies of AIPAC. In 2011 she was in Tahrir Square during the Egyptian uprising, and in 2012 she was part of a human rights delegation to Bahrain in support of democracy activists when she was tear-gassed, arrested, and deported by the Bahraini government. Her new book is Drone Warfare: Killing by Remote Control.

Medea Benjamin talks about how the U.S. government uses drones to murder hundreds of innocent victims in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Somalia and Yemen and how that has increased the danger to our national security. She challenges the legality and morality of America’s extrajudicial execution drones.
