Alexander Cockburn on OBAMA'S PLACE IN THE GLOBAL EXPANSION OF CAPITAL

Alexander Cockburn speaks on "OBAMA'S PLACE IN THE GLOBAL EXPANSION OF CAPITAL & THE DEMISE OF THE WELFARE STATE" (from the series TUC Radio www.tucradio.org/

Alexander Cockburn says that the current economic crisis is the outcome of the neoliberal age that began in the seventies by promoting corporate power and eviscerating social services. He alludes to the role presidents Carter, Reagan, Bush I, Clinton and Bush II have played in this neoliberal expansion and argues that Obama comes out in support of capital.

Cockburn is co-editor, with Jeffrey Saint Clair, of the biweekly newsletter CounterPunch. He says about their newsletter, http://www.counterpunch.org, that it supports "the battles against the war machine, big business and the rapers of nature." He and Saint Clair have also written or co-edited many books, among them Whiteout: The CIA, Drugs and the Press, Imperial Crusades, and: Dime's Worth of Difference. Cockburn writes for The Nation and the Los Angeles Times.
Cockburn lives and works in Petrolia, a very small town in Northern California. He was recorded on December 3, 2010, in yet another small town on the ocean in Mendocino County on one his very rare public appearances. He was invited by Parents for Peace, Mendocino.
