This episode of Out Loud features:

  • Michelle Maher, who is an instructor of Counseling Psychology at the Lewis & Clark Graduate School of Education and Counseling.  Michelle is here to speak about a day-long conference that’s coming up on December 1st about how how young people marginalized through sexuality and race are targeted by our criminal justice system.
  • We’ll also hear from Judy Rickard, who wrote a book recounting her experiences and difficulties with federal immigration authorities as she tries to maintain a relationship with a British national.  Here are links to her blog, an excerpt from a reading, and her facebook page.  Judy will be at In Other Words Bookstore for a reading on November 27th at 2 p.m.
  • Later in the show we were joined by Jenn Burleton from Trans Active, who talked about Multnomah County's upcoming proclamation of December as "Transgender Children Awareness Month.  We’ll also hear about the work that Trans Active has done in Mexico as well as information about their silent auction event on December 4th.
