As February 7th would've been his 35th birthday, and February 10th marks the 3 year anniversary of his passing, we pay tribute to the late, great James Yancey aka Jay Dee aka J Dilla. Being that Dilla is one of my all time favorite artists, I do a tribute show in celebration of his life and music every year. This year, we did it a little different. In past years, we played his most well known, as well as his best obscure tracks. This year, we started by playing songs that other artists influenced by Dilla have made in his memory over the past three years, followed by original songs sampled by Dilla for his work, including a number from his masterwork, Donuts. In reference to the original songs as sampled by, the only thing I listed was what song he sampled for his works. Two reasons: 1. The beat-digger's code. 2. Some of the samples may not have been cleared.
