I live and work in China.  i have seen no ill-effects in my area of this drought.  i am aware China has a lot of environmental issues--substantial problems, and I am not one of these brainwashed Americans who thinks climate change is a conspiracy (that is irrelevent to me--whether the climate is changing or not, we are killing the enviornment) but I wonder how much of these droughts and famines we about, that are heralded are actually exaggerated by and trumped up by monied interests--GM foods, Monsanto, Cargill, etc...think tanks, Koch Brothers against democracy.  They are always driving the need for GM foods to save the world. They are Koching the truth, and Koching the natural ecosystem.
There are environmental problems in China, but food is abundant, and cheap, and nobody is starving--even the poor farmers have farms and gardens-at least in the South, and ost areas of China.  The SOuth can easily feed the north of China.  And wheat is not a major staple of China.  We dont need wheat form China.  local econmoies should depend on local produce--no need to feul industrial farming at this scale and industrial trading at this scale.  Local.  Green.  Fair trade.
My point is I dont think there is an iminient threat to food surpluses.  there is no doom.  I think GM foods exacerbate these problems for their own sorted agenda.  Again there is aproblem, but if its making mainstream headlines i'm skeptical.  Caution is needed.  With every tale of famine or drought we should be pushing organic sustainable local farming methods and green life...
