The Feminist Film Society is a group of folks who meet up monthly to watch movies and discuss them with feminism in mind. This evening, they’ll be screening the 2010 feature Easy A. All are welcome at 7 PM at the In Other Words feminest, located at 14 N Killingsworth in Portland.

Tomorrow , Saturday, the city of Portland will host an all-day Fix-It Fair, a free event with exhibits and workshops on Water and energy savings, food and nutrition, neighborhood and community resources, transportation, gardening and composting, and more.
Free lead blood testing and bike tuneups will be available, as will free lunches and childcare .
Tomorrow’s fair will run from 8:30 to 2 at Parkrose High School, located at 12003 NE Shaver Street.

Also tomorrow morning, the Native American Youth and Family Center will host the first of a free 2-part homebuyer education class. The Pathways Home program includes information on income and credit, paperwork, and the roles of lenders, real estate agents, and home inspectors. Lunch and materials are provided. The sessions run from 9 AM to 3 PM at the NAYA center, located at 5135 NE Columbia Blvd. in Portland. Participants must complete 2 Saturday sessions to receive a certificate. More classes will be available in February if you can’t make it in January.

Also tomorrow morning! Friends of Trees asks your help planting native trees and shrubs at Durham City Park in Southwest Portland. They provide breakfast, tools, and guidance and ask only that planters show up around 8:45 AM and dress appropriately for the weather.

And then on Monday, January 24th, come on down to the Hollywood Senior Center for a Town Hall hosted by Senator Jackie Dingfelder, Representative Ben Cannon and Representative Michael Dembrow. They’ll be discussing issues of probable interest to senior citizens from 2pm – 4pm at the Center, located at 1820 Northeast 40th Avenue in Portland.

The Early Assessment and Support Alliance is an outreach and treatment program for young people ages 15 to 25 who are experiencing the first symptoms of psychosis.
The Alliance’s services and resources include

* low-dose medication and medication monitoring
* individual and group counseling
* multi-family groups
* occupational therapy
* family education and support
* vocational training
* life-skills coaching
* 24/7 crisis services
* links to community resources
* education about psychosis

 


Psychosis can happen to anybody; it is most likely to first occur during young adulthood and it may affect three out of every 100 young people.
