Do you like chocolate but hate child slavery?  Then stop by the First Unitarian Church this Saturday afternoon to watch short documentary, The Dark Side of Chocolate.  The film shines a light on the “child slavery and exploitation within the chocolate industry and cocoa farms in West Africa.” the film is screening as part of an “Economic Justice for the Holidays” bazaar and forum that’ll include awesome eco gifts and free Equal Exchange Fair Trade coffee, chocolate and tea. The screening is free and will be at the First Unitarian Church located at 1011 SW 12th Ave this Saturday at 2pm.  For more information call, 725-3307.

How can one have a free society when they feel they live in a police state?  The Variant will be hosting a Panel discussion this Saturday with Members of various organizations and social movements who will discuss the contemporary and sobering reality of dealing with the backlash of political repression. Focus will be on immigrant communities from Africa and Latin America facing severe government harassment and repression.  The event free and is this Saturday from 6:30pm to 8:30pm at The Variant, located at 4810 North east Garfield.

This Saturday stop by the Clinton Street theater to watch a free holiday play that has ghosts in it.  The Free Theatre of Portland, a new local company, presents a new holiday show about a man tormented by his brother-in-law and a ghost. The play is called  Of Scary Ghost Stories and Tales of the Glories and is free and is this Saturday at 7:30pm at the Clinton Street Theater located at 2522 Se Clintion Street.  For more information call 503-238-8899

Stop by the Q center this Saturday for the Pride Reading Series.  The reading will be from “Santa’s Closet,” the story of a young boy who asks Santa for a Brenda Ann doll for Christmas even though he knows his mom and dad don’t want him to have her. Through his letters to Santa he learns a surprising secret about Santa. The event is this Sunday from 5:30pm – 9:00pm, and door open at 7pm. The readings will be in the North room in the Q center, located at 4115 North Mississippi Avenue. For more information call (503) 234-7837
