Happy Friday! This is Margaret with your COMMUNITY CALENDAR for October the twenty-second.

This evening at 7, the Red & Black Cafe will host a screening of COINTELPRO 101, a documentary film targeted to viewers new to the history of the FBI programs that have sought to destroy movements for self-determination and liberation,  and to attack allies of these movements and other progressive organizations. Again, the film will screen at  7 pm at the Red & Black Cafe, located at  400 SE 12th Ave in Portland.

Then, later tonight, Rose City Shimmy invites you to a super special Breast Cancer Awareness Month  burlesque event to benefit the Keep A Breast Foundation. This evening’s highlights will include raffle prizes, a breast cancer awareness information booth, and an all-star burlesque lineup emceed by Zora Phoenix!

Doors open at 8:30, and the show starts at 9, at The Knife Shop at Kelly’s Olympian, located in downtown Portland at 426 Southwest Washington Street.
The Keep A Breast Foundation ™ is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization. Their mission is to help eradicate breast cancer by exposing young people to methods of prevention, early detection and support. Through art events, educational programs and fundraising efforts, they seek to increase breast cancer awareness among young people so they are better equipped to make choices and develop habits that will benefit their long-term health and well-being.

Tomorrow morning in Tualatin, the Metro Native Plant Center is hosting a volunteer restoration work party for anyone interested in caring for the rare native seeds and plant stock .  Fall activities vary and will include transplanting seedlings, harvesting and cleaning native seeds, planting native plugs for prairie habitat seed production, harvesting bulbs for restoration plantings and fall seed planting. Work gloves, tools, water and a snack will be provided; prior gardening experience is not required, and wheelchair accessible activities can be arranged.
The party runs from 9 AM to 1 at Metro's Native Plant Center at 2661 SW Borland Road in Tualatin.

Then tomorrow afternoon from 1 to 2, the Lotus Seed Studio will host a yoga class designed for individuals who have experienced trauma and extreme states, co-sponsored by Portland Hearing Voices & Empowerment Initiatives.  This class is of the Vinyasa school of yoga that links movement with breath and links postures to form a flow.  The Lotus Seedc is located in inner NE Portland at 6 NE Tillamook. The Stolen Lives Project  documents cases of killings by law enforcement nationwide. The second edition of the Stolen Lives book,  documents over 2000 cases nationwide in the 1990s.  Documentation, writing, editing and distribution work continues on the Stolen Lives project.
