KBOO Community Radio is currently hiring a Web & New Media Coordinator.  This is a part-time position, 30 hours per week, with a starting salary of $14.62 per hour. The full job description is below.

Job Title: Web and New Media Coordinator

Employment Status:  non-exempt hourly     
Hours:  30 hrs. per week- regular

Reports to: Station Manager                      

Positions Supervised: volunteers and independent contractors

 

General Description: The Web Coordinator works to update daily, weekly and monthly content, maintain the front-end of the website, and train staff/volunteers on various website features.  This position works with the Development Director to run social media campaigns and promotion. The Web Coordinator should have online editing skills but is not required to do core programming.

 

Knowledge and skills

  • Website administration skills, and experience in maintaining a Drupal website.

  • At least 2 years of experience using social media for promotional campaigns

  • Ability to work with a wide variety of people in a multicultural, cooperative, progressive organization.

  • Excellent communication skills.

  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.

  • Excellent organizational skills.

  • Some knowledge of KBOO broadcasting.

  • Ability to work independently.

  • Knowledge of HTML preferred.

  • Experience with Adobe Audition, Photoshop and graphic design is helpful.

  • Experience in developing and implementing a training program is beneficial.

  • Familiarity with online communities, social networks, and audio/radio/media resources

  • Demonstrate knowledge of Internet tools, trends, and strategies for media, community building, and non-profits on the web.

  • Maintains active profiles on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram

 

Functions

This position includes day-to-day administrative work such as content updates, training, problem solving and group communications; expanding and improving our website and online presence; planning for future needs; and overseeing independent contractors and volunteer programmers with approximately 35% training and assistance, 35% updating web presence, 30% social media collaboration with the Development Director.


Staff:

  • Train all staff on maintaining their departmental web page, blog and/or audio and graphics uploads as appropriate.

  • Train staff on items that their volunteers use (e.g. Volunteer Coordinator oversees community calendar).

  • Provide written documentation.  

  • Work with staff in departments to identify and recruit volunteers for assistance with the web.

  • Present monthly reports at staff meeting.

  • Monitor site to ensure that staff are updating sections as appropriate.

  • Monitor correctness of posted materials.

On-air volunteers:

  • Train programmers & producers how to prepare their audio files for uploading and upload them to the proper category on the site.

  • Train on playlists, blogs, and individual web pages.

Admin and Content:

  • Ensure daily, weekly, and monthly content is current and updated.  Train volunteers and staff how to update.  Work closely with programmers and staff to add or assist with web content for program specials, outreach events, governance and membership information.  

  • Maintain the online program schedule and delegate to programming staff as feasible.

  • Responsible for maintenance of usernames and passwords.

  • Web Coordinator will help select content for homepage in coordination with programming staff.  Provide dynamic, eye-catching content that promotes programming, station goals and mission.

  • Test backups and ensure that site content is being backed up regularly.

  • Monitor and maintain KBOO’s webstream (icecast.)

  • Update program specials and KBOO events based on information from staff.

  • Document tasks for a Web Coordinator desk manual.

  • Coordinate with Development Director to post the recurrent online newsletter on the website.

  • Address issues brought up by users in the online ticketing system.

  • Work with server contractor to maintain domain & web hosting and registration information and track renewal dates. Coordinate dates with Administrative Assistant.

  • Add quarterly SoundExchange reports

New Media Coordination:

  • Work closely with the Development Director to create content that meet KBOO’s marketing and fundraising goals.

  • Create and manage an internal social media calendar.

  • Generate and curate compelling content for social sharing, reaching out to programmers and hosts when necessary.

  • Maintain consistent station identity across platforms.

  • Prepare regular analytical reports on social media activity and its effectiveness.

  • Monitor trends in social media platforms, tools, and metrics, making recommendations to grow audience and increase engagement.

 

Salary

This is a part-time position with a starting salary of $14.62 per hour. The employee shall be eligible for annual step increases subject to conditions in KBOO Collectively Bargained Agreement.


Probationary Period
KBOO is a union shop and all (non management) staff are members of Communications Workers of America (CWA)- Local 7901. Any person hired will be required to join and pay dues to CWA Local 7901 after 90 days. There is a six month probationary period. This period is not to be construed as a contract.


Benefits

Benefits include medical and dental coverage, disability and life insurance, and credit union eligibility. This position also offers paid vacation, sick leave, and 11 paid holidays per year, in accordance with KBOO’s Collective Bargaining Agreement. FSLA-exempt employees receive paid compensatory time off. Eligibility for the pension plan is one year after the date of hire.

Working Conditions

KBOO has a small paid staff and about 500 volunteers. KBOO has regular membership drives. They

require an intense amount of time and coordination. The atmosphere is hectic and stimulating. The

ability to work in this kind of environment is essential.


Workplace expectations at KBOO radio include: effective verbal and written communications, conflict

de-escalation, skillful volunteer relations and utilization, capable project management, work-area

organization, response to phone calls and correspondence, teamwork and cooperation with other

employees, volunteers, and Board members; furtherance of KBOO mission, goals and values;

meeting attendance and participation; capable departmental budgeting and punctuality.


Equipment Used & Physical Working Conditions

Computer, voicemail, copier, fax. Applicant must be able to remain in a stationary position

approximately 50% or more of the time. The person in this position needs to occasionally move about

inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc. Applicant must have ability to operate a

computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine and computer

printer.
