Multicultural Film Fest: The Canary Effect

Tue, 03/11/2014 - 6:00pm - 9:00pm

The March 11 presentation by the JHS 13th Annual Multicultural Film Festival is entitled The Canary Effect.  As a metaphor, this title describes the prescient nature of brutal treatment inflicted upon First Nation people (Native Americans) through practices and policies from the hands of early American settlers and political officials.  Like canaries in coalmines, First Nation people foreshadowed future injustices, some which have been disputed and corrected, others coninue on  Many First Nation people are now layered with multigenerational stresses from racism with resultantly shortened lives.

Come; view The Canary Effect documentary, and engage in our community discussion Tuesday, March 11, 6 PM at the North Portland Neighborhood Library, 512 N. Killingsworth Street.  Our presentations are always informative, family friendly, and FREE.
