KBOO at the Clinton: QUEEN OF THE SUN: What Are the Bees Telling Us?

Thu, 05/08/2014 - 7:00pm - 8:45pm

Did you know 42% of managed honeybees in Portland died last year? Did you know one out of every three bites of food we eat depends on bees for pollination?

Please join KBOO for a short discussion with bee experts on how you can right now help save our bees, and a screening of the delightful and inspiring film Queen of the Sun. This is a joint benefit for Sunnyside Environmental School Garden Program, and KBOO Community Radio.

QUEEN OF THE SUN: What Are the Bees Telling Us? is a profound, alternative look at the global bee crisis from award-winning filmmaker Taggart Siegel, director of REAL DIRT ON FARMER JOHN .

Taking us on a journey through the catastrophic disappearance of bees and the mysterious world of the beehive, this engaging and ultimately uplifting film weaves an unusual and dramatic story of the heartfelt struggles of beekeepers, scientists and philosophers from around the world including Michael Pollan, Gunther Hauk and Vandana Shiva. Together they reveal both the problems and the solutions in renewing a culture in balance with nature.

This event is FREE, but donations will be gladly accepted and will go to help create pollinator/bird habitats at Sunnyside Environmental School and help sustain KBOO 90.7 FM Community Radio.
