Wed, 07/10/2013 - 6:00pm - 10:00pm
It's July 10th, and every second Wednesday of the month through October 2013!
For the second year, Creative CoLaborations is hosting a monthly street festival - four blocks BIG - in support of street artists and vendors as a way to stimulate the local neighborhood economy. Hump Day was designed to be an alternative to Last Thursday on Alberta Street which has become overcrowded in recent years, affecting the ability of the local artists to sell their work.
HUMP DAY PDX: SE 9th and Belmont in Portland; 6:00 - 10 p.m.
The street festival will have about 100 vendors of which eighty-percent (80%) will be local artists. The remaining are food vendors or other non-profits. The Green Dragon will be hosting a beer garden in their parking lot where the main stage will be, featuring performances by Laura Ivancie, Acoustic Minds, Darling Instigatah, and Vanessa Rogers.
ABOUT CREATIVE COLLABORATIONS
Creative CoLaborations is a non-profit arts organization that was established to facilitate the new monthly street festival, Hump Day PDX. It is blossoming into a community organizing company that focuses on neighborhood economic development. Its partners are developing an economic system that will give rise to greater potentials for happiness in the community. By organizing monthly art and music events in a local business district, activity is increased which can influence the development of the surrounding area.
This spring term, Creative CoLaborations is working with the Business Capstone Program at Portland State University in order to devise a system to measure the social and economic impact of its efforts. This is a fantastic opportunity to study how a monthly street festival can affect a neighborhood's economic growth. It is also in pursuit of a cooperative studio space that can function as a venue for Creative CoLaborations to host community events. This summer, it is anticipating that 100 artists will become members of its studio.
