GAINING GROUND is an intimate view of rural and urban farmers who are embracing the challenge of effecting change within an industry that is being increasingly threatened by genetically-engineered foods and the intentional destruction of local agricultural communities.
Media Project will present a screening of a short “rough-cut” from its upcoming film, GAINING GROUND at the Fifth Avenue Cinema, in downtown Portland on June 1, 2013. This is a benefit to raise funds to finish the film.
Following the screening there will be a discussion with the filmmakers and the farmers featured in the film: Vicki Hertel, Sun Gold Farm in Verboort, OR; and Willow Coberly and Harry Stalford, Stalford Seed Farms in Tangent, OR.
GAINING GROUND is written and produced by KBOO-FM host Barbara Bernstein, and Elaine Velazquez, who have been creating film and radio documentaries for over thirty-five years. Their award winning work has been broadcast on public television and radio, screened at international film festivals and distributed throughout broad grassroots networks. GAINING GROUND is partially funded by the Regional Arts & Culture Council.
