Cascade Media Convergence

Fri, 09/19/2014 - 7:00pm - Sun, 09/21/2014 - 5:00pm

Cascade Media Convergence is a media based gathering which will be taking place in Portland, OR. The CMC will be a series of workshops, open-themed strategy sessions, and public events aimed at bringing together alternative and community media organizations, independent journalists and artists engaged in community based media to build a regional media movement that will work to support larger social movement organizing throughout the region.

The primary goals of the convergence are to create a space for media makers to network and share best practices, collectively learn skills, and lay the framework for continued collaboration and plant the seeds toward building a regional grassroots media coalition. We will showcase models of democratic media movements and projects and discuss what we can learn from these models and how those lessons can be applied to advancing similar initiatives in our local communities.

The weekend will be structured to include space for informational based workshops on media based movements of the past and present, skillshares where participants can learn practical media skills, strategy sessions for people working within the same medium (radio, video, print, etc.) in order to network and coordinate efforts on a regional level, and space to discuss proposals for particular media based projects or to develop a media strategy around a specific social justice campaign.
