Art for Education: Save the Pioneer Cabin

Sat, 04/27/2013 - 4:00pm - 7:00pm

The Newell House Museum is having an open house and art auction in order to raise awareness and support for the Pioneer Mothers Memorial Cabin in Champoeg State Park, Oregon.  A series of floods, and subsequent erosion, threatens to permanently damage this historic monument which was built in 1929 - by donations raised during this country's Great Depression - in honor of pioneering mothers who crossed the Oregon Trail in the 1800s.  It's time to take action to prevent the Pioneer Mothers Memorial Cabin from sinking into the the Williamette River!

The event includes a juried art exhibit and auction, as well as an opportunity for guiests to learn about the history of the cabin and the educational programs currently offered there; plus music, light appetizers, and wine.  Featured artists for the Art for Education benefit include photographers Peter Schutte and Jim Leisy, and painter Theresa Andreas-O'Leary.
