Using mental management & taking action in the face of challenge

November 2014: I recently learned of Marilyn Hayward's passing and during my brief but impactful acquaintance with her, I was struck by her passionate dedication to following a self-directed path. Marilyn emphasized how maintaining a positive quality of life was of great importance to her. Having learned more about her challenges to sustain that quality since her brain injury in 2013, I feel I better understand the choices she made. Thank you Marilyn, for being so richly human, and for your ever present commitment to encourage everyone to live their best life possible.

Marilyn Hayward, owner of Coventry Cycle Works in Portland, OR, triumphantly captured two bicycle world records at the age of 63. During her life, she also took powerful action to survive a terminal cancer diagnosis, twice save her limbs from amputation, and recover from severe brain damage.  Marilyn urges, "Never give up!" and provides practical tips for moving forward with life's difficulties.
