John Bellamy Foster on long and short-range leftist strategy
Bill Resnick talks with John Bellamy Foster about the need for social revolution to act on the economy to prevent deep ecological disturbance. John argues that economic growth is unsustainable and urges for the radical reorganization of the economy to reduce consumption as well as reducing waste. While focusing on climate change, John points out that it is only one element of environmental disturbance, which includes other forms of pollution. What's important, John also points out, that our short-term strategy to avert the most catastrophic environmental shifts can accord with long-range leftist vision. In the end, we have the tools to reduce the human impact on the environment and effect radical ecological recovery, but that the technology is not enough and must be accompanied by a radical change in the social relations that develop and apply technology.
