Bureau of Labor and Industries Investigates Daimler
The Bureau of Labor and Industry has launched an investigation on behalf of five Daimler Trucks North America employees for allegations of racial harassment by coworkers and failure to take corrective action by the company’s management.
The Oregon Labor Commissioner, Brad Avakian, has filed a commissioner’s complaint against the company, saying “No employee in Oregon should have to face racial discrimination and intimidation”.
The alleged civil rights violations include employees using racial epithets against African American coworkers, physical intimidation, and in one instance, an African American employee being confronted by another worker holding a noose in the company parking lot.
If the Bureau does find evidence confirming the allegations it could prosecute the company and potentially individual perpetrators of the harassment.
