Like too many other countries throughout the world, Nepal is facing serious deforestation as the rural people scavenge firewood for cooking and heating. And the urban dwellers of Nepal, who rely on kerosene and petrol, face shortages and high prices. Furthermore, they live amidst mounds of uncollected trash. Sanu Kaji Shrestha has come up with solutions that are plentiful, affordable and even address problems of pollution.

 An old friend of mine, Lynne Likens of Talent, Oregon, let me know that she was stunned by the recent Supreme Court decision to allow unlimited corporate spending in our elections, reversing decades of campaign finance laws and cementing the myth that corporations are "persons."

She sent me this copy of a letter she sent to our Senator, Jeff Merkley:

  "I have been overwhelmed with the amount of data coming out this week, and part of me just wants to either drink myself into oblivion or become a hermit. But I will not give up yet, and maybe we can at least slow it down.  

May our great-great grandchildren forgive us…"
