Thanks to volunteers for helping with the Winter Membership Drive!

A huge thanks to the volunteers who helped with the Winter Membership Drive!

It was a pleasure to meet many new volunteers, who jumped right in to lend a hand. I very much enjoyed introducing new people to KBOO and to the dynamic community of volunteers who make KBOO what it is.

During the nine day drive, your great help made the fundraising fun--- which near as I can figure, is most important within a community.  Your participation exemplified the addage: many hands make light work.

If you started volunteering during this drive, and would like to continue exploring the opportunities that KBOO has to offer, please attend the next volunteer orientation-- which is Saturday, February 20th, 10am - noon-- or talk with me for more information.

KBOO's Winter Membership drive needs you!

KBOO's Winter Membership Drive begins on Friday, January 22nd. We still have opportunities for volunteers to staff the phones during our nine-day on air fundraiser, which ends Saturday, January 30th. Shifts are available from early morning through the evening. Please contact me with any questions, or to find a time that will work for your schedule. If you have considered volunteering at KBOO, but haven't yet taken the plunge, this is a wonderful way to check out the station, meet other volunteers, talk all things KBOO, and provide the station with much needed help during this important fundraiser.

Volunteers do many things during the drive; we still have openings to:

Volunteers needed to help answer membership drive phones, and more!

Have you been wanting to get more involved with KBOO?  This is your time!  KBOO’s Fall Membership Drive begins Thursday, October 1st, through Saturday, October 17th.

KBOO’s existence depends on membership drives as more than 80% of our funding comes from our listeners--this is, in part,  what allows KBOO to be so independent and unique.  We ask that all volunteers at KBOO  help with the drive, as we have more than 600 shifts to fill!  With shifts available seven days a week, generally spanning the hours of 6 AM to 11 PM, there are shifts to fit anyone’s schedule!

The drive is very high energy, and volunteers work very closely together in teams to raise money for the station— it can be really fun to schedule a shift during a time that you listen, you can meet the volunteers that you hear on the radio and talk with others that share your interests. If you haven’t volunteered before, try answering phones & assisting our listeners to become members—it’s a great way to jump on in. There are other opportunities related to the drive, so contact me for more information.

Interested?  My email address is volunteer[at]kboo[dot]org or you can phone me at 503-231-8032 ext. 213, I’ll be happy to hear from you.

Get Involved with KBOO's Spring Membership Drive

Spring is in the air, and it’s time to get involved with your community radio station’s Spring Membership Drive! We are currently preparing for our drive runs on air from Friday, May 1st through Saturday, May 16th.

This is a fabulous time to get involved in KBOO because the drive is a very high energy time, with volunteers working closely together in teams to raise much needed money for the station. It is really fun to schedule a shift during a time that you listen, as then you can meet the volunteers that you hear on the radio and talk with others that share your interests. We need volunteers for many roles—before the drive we need volunteers to help solicit restaurant donations (we have many restaurants that donate food to keep volunteers happy!), and recruit and schedule other volunteers to help out. During the drive we have many, many roles for you to get involved with: answering phones & assisting our listeners to become members; getting on mic and talking with the program host to encourage listeners to join KBOO; running errands to pick up food donations; data entry / filing support work, and a few other things to boot.

KBOO Honors International Women's Day, Sunday, March 8th

Categories:

International Women's Day is an annual event that began in New York City around the turn of the twentieth century. Initially it sought to raise awareness of the achievements of women. In 1908, on this day, 15,000 women marched in New York City for better pay, working conditions, and an end to child labor. The day became a recognized holiday in many newly socialist countries over the next several years, but ironically fell off the radar, by and large, in the US, until the late 1960s.

Join us on Sunday, March 8th, beginning at 6 AM, as KBOO volunteers honor the contributions of women to art and culture, and raise awareness of the issues that continue to challenge us to action. With 21 hours of special programming produced by women, featuring information and music of the women of the world, and our own backyard.

Volunteer Updates: Bad weather contingency plans and events in January

Many thanks to intrepid volunteers who are making it into KBOO through all manner of weather!  If you are unable to make it to a volunteer shift, please call and let us know as soon as you are able, so we can try to cover. For situations involving on-air cancellations during business hours, please call the front desk (503-231-8032) and ask to speak directly with Chris Merrick or myself.  If neither are available, please ask for any staff person.  For very time sensitive urgent situations like this, it is important not to rely on voicemail or email, but to speak with a staff member directly. If it is after hours, and you are unable to make it in for an on-air shift, please call the air room (503-231-8187), and ask for emergency contact information for Chris Merrick or myself.

KBOO's starting off 2009 with a volunteer appreciation party! We would love for all volunteers to join us in a very special afternoon of celebration, honoring the amazing work you do to make KBOO the great community radio station it is.

The appreciation party will be at Liberty Hall, 311 N. Ivy, on Saturday, January 10th, 1 - 4 PM.  Please check kboo.fm/volunteer for up to date details.
