Haiti Fundraiser - March 15 deadline

The final tally of pledges from our special day of programming for Haiti earthquake recovery efforts is $11,903

KBOO is donating 100% of all dollars raised, to be equally distributed to Konbit pou Aiti (Working together for Haiti), Our Soil, Honor and Respect Foundation, and  HACAOT.

Fundraising for Haiti

So as of 5:30pm, we've raised just over $6,000 for Haitian relief efforts through our special day of programming.  But the special goes until 10 pm, and we'd love to reach $10,000 before then.  We'll accept donations online until midnight and then that's it.  If you've not yet contributed to earthquake recovery efforts in Haiti, please do so today through KBOO.

We are distributing 100% of all donations made today to these four organizations:

Winter membership drive reaches financial goal!

Just a little while ago, we crossed the $50,000 goal for our 2010 Winter membership drive!  Thanks very much to every one who made a donation!  We're all very gratified that you appreciate the work we do.

If you didn't pay on the phone with the volunteer you spoke with, or entered a card # on the webform, please send us your payment or start your monthly deduction in February.  These donations will help pay our bills through the Spring.

Keep in mind also, that we accept donations anytime right here.  And donations outside of membership drives can shorten the drives themselves.

If you requested a thank you gift during the drive, we'll begin sending those out (that are in station) the second week of February.  The rest will be ordered at that time and will arrive at KBOO  soon (I  hope).

Thanks very much once again to all our fantastic members!

Winter Drive is half over...except for the fundraising

Our 2010 Winter membership drive ends Saturday.  However we are slightly behind on our goal so we'd really love you to send KBOO your support right now to ensure that we stay on budget this year.  Nearly 90% of our annual operating revenue comes from individual donors, and we'd like to count you among them.  Plus, brand new KBOO members can select a T-shirt from our assorted designs with any size membership donation.

Donations to KBOO are tax-deductible (less the value of any thank you gifts received).  Listener support  is the foundation upon which our broadcast built - without it, we'd never be able to broadcast such a diverse mix of music and create nearly 5 hours of locally produced news and public affairs content every weekday.

Specials still to come this week include News &  Public Affairs Day Friday, and a live in-studio recording with 3 great bands during the Music from the True Vine show Saturday morning.  Support your community radio station, a rarity that Portland is blessed to have amongst its cultural and information offerings.

About Your Taxes

The KBOO Foundation (which operates the radio station) is a tax-exempt, non-profit organization registered with the Internal Revenue Service.  Our tax ID number is 23-7232987.  Donors to KBOO may deduct donations to us from federal taxes, provided one follows the procedures below.

So what's this membership blog for anyway?

I'd really like to know.  Specifically, what would encourage you to come back repeatedly?  What do KBOO members (and potential members) want to read about at the Membership Director's blog?

Calendar of internal events / meetings relevant to members?

Links to minutes from KBOO committee and board meetings?

Community radio news?  Stuff about media activism?  The FCC?  Other media/radio news? Activism opportunities?

Anything else?  There's plenty I haven't thought of, no doubt.

2009 Give!Guide Results

Thanks very much to everyone who made a contribution through the 2009 Give!Guide, especially if you chose KBOO as a recipient.  As predicted, the final week was really wild, with both the number and dollar amount of donations increasing every day of the week, culminating in a frenzy on the 31st.  We even received a donation after 11pm on New Year's Eve.

KBOO Give!Guide Momentum Surges...

...passed $10,000!!  YAY!!  But you can still join in.    DONATE NOW

Since Monday, dozens of wonderful listeners have donated thousands to KBOO via the Give!Guide.  Today's pace is even faster and with your help we can exceed last year's total.  Huge thanks to all our Give!Guide donors! DEADLINE: MIDNIGHT

Give!Guide Support for KBOO Leaps Upward - Join In!

Several dozen savvy and generous listeners have nearly doubled KBOO's total donations in the Give!Guide in just the past 10 days.  Thanks very much to all our 2009 Give!Guide donors thus far.

Now it would be so amazing if we could double our current total again in another 10 days (or less).  Please help us progress toward our goal of $20,000 by month's end.  Only with your help, possibly encouraged by some cool incentives, can we get there. Plus, everyone who donates at least $25.00 through the Give!Guide can attend a special private show with Deelay Ceelay at Berbati’s (10 SW 3rd Avenue) on Friday, January 15.  Deelay Ceelay is a collaboration between video artist / musician Chris Lael Larson and percussionist Delaney Kelly, fusing live instrumentation with synched projected visuals.

Mailing Year-End Contributions

Still uncomfortable with making online donations?  Not to worry, we're perfectly happy to receive your year-end gift through the US  mail.  But if you want to claim your year-end charitable contribution as a deduction on your 2009 federal tax return, there's a few things you might want to know.
