Bill Moyers - "What's the Situation?"

From the World Affairs Council of Oregon's 2015 International Speakers Series

One of the most trusted and beloved figures in American journalism, Bill Moyers has been both observer and participant in the most important social movements of our times.   As Special Assistant, Press Secretary, and confidant of President Lyndon B. Johnson, he was a prime architect of the social programs known as the Great Society.  Ordained as a Baptist pastor, and often called “America’s conscience,” Moyers has taken on subjects as diverse as income inequality, biased news reporting, Constitutional crises, and racism.   He was inducted into the Television Hall of Fame, has received over 30 Emmys (in addition to a Lifetime Achievement Emmy), a Personal Peabody Award (for lifetime achievement), and a George Polk Career Award for journalistic integrity and investigative reporting.

Each year, the International Speaker Series brings influential world figures to Oregon to address the most critical ideas and issues shaping our global future. This year's theme, "Warning! Contents Under Pressure" presents four engaging, provocative speakers taking on some of the most urgent, front-and-center issues of our time: War, Extremism, Inequality, and Climate Change. Read more about the Series and see an overview of the speakers on the International Speaker Series Page.
