Judi Bari and Darryl Cherney were falsely arrested for car-bombing themselves on May 24, 1990 in Oakland, CA while organizing for Earth First! and Redwood Summer. They sued the FBI for violations of the First Amendment, claiming the FBI knew they were innocent but arrested them to try to silence them. In 2002 Oakland Police officers were ordered to pay a total of $4.4 million to Cherney and to Bari's estate. Judi Bari died of breast cancer in 1997.

Judi Bari, one of the leaders of the movement to save California's old growth redwoods, gives her on-camera, deathbed testimony about the attempt on her life and her colorful organizing history with the radical environmental movement Earth First. Directed by Mary Liz Thomson, the film is a compelling tribute to Bari, a fiery speaker whose background as a union organizer put her in a unique position to bridge the cultural divide between "hippie" activists and rank-and-file loggers.
