Michelle Alexander is a legal scholar, who has who has worked in an impressive array of positions related to racial justice and civil rights. In her important new book she makes the case that the disproportionate imprisonment of black men allows the U.S. criminal justice system to function as a contemporary system of racial control. Shannon joins host Linda Olson-Osterlund in the Kboo Studio to talk about her new book, A Thousand Sisters: My Journey Into The Worst Place On Earth To Be A Women. In 2005 Lisa saw an episode of the Oprah show depicting the plight of women in the conflict in The Congo where rape had affected the lives of over fifty percent of the women fleeing the fighting. That show changed Lisa's life forever. She  founded  Run For Congo Women, raising funds to sponsor Congolese women through Women For Women International, then traveled to the eastern Congo to meet the women she sponsored.

Mac Mc Clelland, Human Rights reporter for Mother Jones Magazine, joins host Linda Olson-Osterlund to talk about her new book For Us Surrender is Out Of The Question: A story from Burma's never-ending war. She brings us the story of the forgotten war in Burma and of the courageous young refugees she stayed with in Thailand. They risk their lives to document the horrors taking place in their home across the border. The crisis in Burma is accelerating rapidly as the military junta that runs Burma, or Myanmar as they renamed it, are engaged in a rapid push to subdue border area minority peoples. With Spring elections planned, they want no distractions.

It is a sanctuary for women and children abused or abandoned.  Founded by Sister Lucy Kurien it is located in Pune, India. The center is  interfaith and and rejects caste in both it's philosophy and in all of it's activities while providing safe shelter, education and healing of the body mind and spirit.

Jonathan Hafetz of The National Security Project of the ACLU joins host Llinda Olson-Osterlund to talk about the new book  he co-edited, The Guantanamo Lawyers: Inside a Prison Outside the Law. This book has the voices of over a hundred attorneys from all types of practices who volunteered to defend the prisoners at Guantanamo. It is a unique behind the scene view of the prisoners, the camp and the attorneys. And an unblinking expose of the failures of our justice system . Meanwhile, priosners cleared for release continue to be held. Hafetz said the ongoing uncertainty of when they will be freed after years of imprisonment is having a  horrible toll on the prisoners.

President Obama has the power to call an end to "indefinate detention" and restore the Rule of Law. As Commander in Chief, Guantanamo Prison Camp is his responsibilty.
