Words and Pictures celebrates 100 episodes with author Daniel Clowes and author Brendan Douglas Jone

This Thursday morning Words & Pictures celebrates its 100th episode with a special hour-long show from 11am to noon.

Our featured guest will be Daniel Clowes, Oscar-nominated author of Ghost World and 2011 recipient of the PEN Literary Award for Graphic Literature. Dan will be talking about his latest book, Mister Wonderful, copies of which will be available as thank-you gifts during KBOO's fall membership drive.

Also appearing on the show will be Brendan Douglas Jones, author of the epic webcomic Breakfast of the Gods, which is now available in print form (despite the obvious trademark infringement issues, wink wink). And we'll be hearing from Ron Diamond about the upcoming Animation Show of Shows screening in Portland.

Also appearing on the show will be Gan Golan, author of the children's book parody Goodnight Bush as well as the epic graphic novel Unemployed Man, which the London Guardian calls "a furious, fearless, Swiftian kind of a book that... should be read by everyone."

Charles Burns, best known for his book "Black Hole," reads from his latest series "X'ed Out."

We hear an excerpt of a talk by the late Portland cartoonist John Callahan whose books include "He Won't Get Far On Foot" and "Do Not Disturb Any Further."

Art Spiegelman, author of the cartoon memoir "Maus," was recorded at the Bagdad Theatre in Portland.

"Comics at the Crossroads: Art of the Graphic Novel."

Words and Pictures visits the Maryhill Museum of Art in the sleepy Columbia Gorge hamlet of Goldendale, Washington, where 40 comics artists and writers from the Pacific Northwest are participating in the special exhibit "Comics at the Crossroads: Art of the Graphic Novel."  We'll hear from Maryhill curator Steve Grafe about the exhibit, including the Daniel Duford lecture "Comics in the Expanded Field" (coming up this Sunday, November 14).  Then we'll head back to the studio for a live chat with comics artist and illustrator Sarah Oleksyk.
