Editorial cartoonist Jack Ohman, who spent nearly three decades at The Oregonian and was recently short-listed for the Pulitzer prize, left Portland for Sacramento at the end of 2012.  While loading up the moving van, Jack made a valedictory appearance at the Oregon Historical Society to talk about art, politics, and the allure of the Pacific Northwest.

Renowned Oregon Governor Tom McCall would have turned 100 years old this year.  To commemorate this larger-than-life figure, Know Your City (formerly the Dill Pickle Club) commissioned a comic book about McCall's controversial decision to fund the Vortex I rock festival in 1970 to draw attention away from an American Legion convention in Portland.  Author Sarah Mirk, who created the comic with artist Daniel Duford, will be in the studio along with Know Your City historian Doug Kenck-Crispin.  There will also be a ticket giveaway for the Northwest Animation Festival, and information about the newest Know Your City project, Comics for Change.

Stumptown Comics Fest 2013!

In Portland, a tiny band of cartoonists believed there should be a platform for artists to connect with their communities; a concept not addressed at the traditional conventions. 10 years ago, the first Stumptown Comics Fest broke the mold and placed Portland at the heart of the burgeoning comics scene.

Join guest host, Paula Small, as she welcomes Aaron Duran, Communications Chair of Stumptown Comics, the arts non-profit responsible for Stumptown Comics Fest. They will discuss the 10-year anniversary of the upcoming Comics Fest, as well as Stumptown Comics mission to increase arts education and reach communities through comics.
