Safety in schools for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer youth

program date:
Tue, 10/06/2009

Youth are safe in schools, right? We'd like to think so. The truth is safety in school depends on many factors. Often, LGBTQ youth face verbal harrassment, sometimes daily. Some LGBTQ youth face violence in school. The Gay Lesbian and Straight Education Network's (GLSEN) 2007 National School Climate Survey found some frightening statistics. Please read their research report to understand what's really going on inside of our schools.

Tonight we speak with Zena, who works with the Oregon Safe Schools and Communities Coalition.
