Redneck America

Those of you who have listened to the show for awhile now know that I have made intermittent attempts to expose our listeners to the conservative psyche, and, in particular, those who get paid to espouse and minister to it. These attempts have met with a mixed response, divided roughly between those who, like me, find conservatives interesting in a train-wreck sort of way, and those who feel there time has been wasted merely by being exposed to what people like O'Reilly and Limbaugh have to say.

Well, I'm going to keep doing it. It's important to know the idioms and memes that drive the hardcore 25-30 percent who will always support the GOP. The End-Timers. The Good Ol' Boys. The "NASCAR Voters." It's important to understand what they're saying and how they think.

Alexandra Pelosi has made a documentary, "Right America: Feeling Wronged," which is airing now on HBO. For those of us who don't subscribe to HBO, it will probably be available for rent in the not-too-distant future. In the meantime, here's a clip.

Watch it.

Air date:
Tue, 03/03/2009 - 9:00am - 10:00am

Chris Andreae hosts this special featuring the voices of members of the RNC 8. They organized the Welcoming Committee that greeted Republicans as they streamed into the Republican National Convention in the Twin Cities. Eight people have been charged with the crime of political organizing. The arrests targeted known organizers in an attempt to derail 2008 anti-RNC protests in St. Paul before the convention had even begun. The RNC 8 were originally charged with conspiracy to riot in the second degree in the furtherance of terrorism, a felony which is the first ever use of Minnesota’s Patriot Act.

This show addressed War Crimes and Impunity. Should the Bush administration be held accountable for possible war crimes?  What is the obligation of the Obama administration to restore the rule of law?

We interviewed Chuck Sudetic co-author of "Madame Prosecutor: Confronting Humanity's Worst Criminals and the Culture of Impunity" and Francis Boyle, University of Illinois law professor and internationally recognized expert on international law and human rights.

Post your comments and questions here. Just because the President does it, doesn't mean it's not illegal.

Host Hala Gores speaks with attorney Tom Nelson, who just returned from Gaza as a member of a National Lawyers Guild delegation of 8 attorneys who went to Gaza to assess the effects of the recent attacks on the Palestinian people, and to determine what, if any, violations of international law occurred and whether U.S. domestic law has been violated as a consequence. She also speaks with Bill Corcoran, President of American Near East Refugee Aid (ANERA), who also just returned from a visit to Gaza. ANERA was incorporated in 1968 to help ease the suffering of Palestinian refugees after the Arab-Israeli War of 1967. It has become one of the largest American non-profits working solely in the Middle East for 40 years. In fiscal year 2008, ANERA delivered more than $50 million worth of donated medicine and medical supplies into Gaza, the West Bank and Lebanon.
