The Abe and Joe Talk Radio Show on 07/06/10

Air date:
Tue, 07/06/2010 - 8:00am - 9:00am
Short Description:
Abe talks with a group of bike-based entrepreneurs about pedaling one’s goods on the street.

Sol Pops, SoupCycle and B-Line Sustainable Urban Delivery are all Portland-based small businesses driven by a common factor: bicycles. But what’s it like to depend on human-powered transportation for your livelihood? It’s a sustainable, intimate and decidedly local form of commerce, sure, but one imagines that Januaries are likely to be extra long.

Noah Cable, Aaron Harmon and Danielle Koppel of Sol Pops, along with Jed Lazar of SoupCycle and Franklin Jones of B-Line, join Abe in studio to discuss doing business from atop a bicycle.

Privatizing the Post Office

program date:
Mon, 06/28/2010

Services that we used to count on from the US Postal Service have been increasingly taken over by private companies such as UPS and FedEx.  Jim Cook, a long time postal worker and President of the Portland branch of the Letter Carriers Union, discusses what we lose as a result (Saturday deliveries are on the chopping block!) and how the Postal Service could be brought into the age of electronic communication.

Get involved:  There will be an informational picket on Thursday, July 1, from 2:30 to 6:30 pm in front of the main Post Office at NW Broadway and Hoyt.

The Abe and Joe Talk Radio Show on 06/29/10

Air date:
Tue, 06/29/2010 - 8:00am - 9:00am
Short Description:
This just in: up is down, in is out and black is white -- as long as you're a Republican.

With Joe on vacation, Abe checks in on the rampant denial, duplicity and hypocrisy that constitute the conservative psyche. As President Obama's Supreme Court nominee is vetted before the Senate, we learn from the GOP why Thurgood Marshall's civil rights crusade was so dangerous: he was a "judicial activist."

We also learn from our conservative brethren that the pressing American economic problem isn't unemployment, it's the deficit. So it's perfectly acceptable -- damn near required, even -- to sacrifice workers in the name of fiscal austerity.
