discussion on the suicides of two 11 year old children due to abuse by their peers.
all this month we have been exploring aspects of mental and emotional healing and ways to cope in this world... this thursday on 'guess who's coming to radio??!!' we will focus on the suicides of carl joseph walker hoover and jaheem harrera, two 11 year olds who were taunted and assaulted to the point where they felt they needed to take their own lives...
we will explore the idea of social perceptions in relation to peer-to-peer abuse (and how these perceptions contribute to the perpetuation of the cycle of violence); how the school system may or may not be intervening in ways which assist children being abused by their peers and/or adults; and, how communities can connect and heal in these situations.
this is about carl joseph walker hoover and jaheem harrera, two 11 year olds who committed suicide after a barrage of homophobic abuse from students at their schools, and the schools' refusal to intervene with all of their power.

The political trial and hanging of four anarchists that followed sparked protests around the world and the designation by the Second International of May 1 as International Workers' Day, more commonly known as May Day. But does commemoration of a 19th century incident have relevance for people in the 21st century? Does demonstrating on May Day have meaning for you?
