Short Description:
All Labor Has Dignity, Martin Luther King, Jr. and Economic Justice

Hosts Celeste Carey and Cecil Prescod speak with Michael Honey about "All Labor Has Dignity," a book of speeches by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. on economic justice. Honey edited the book.

People forget that Dr. King was every bit as committed to economic justice as he was to ending racial segregation. As we struggle with massive unemployment, a staggering racial wealth gap, and the near collapse of our financial system, King’s prophetic writings and speeches underscore King’s relevance for today. Michael Honey's collection traces King’s economic dream, from lectures to unions in the 1960s to addresses during his Poor People’s Campaign, culminating with his momentous “Mountaintop” speech, delivered in support of striking black sanitation workers in Memphis.

Tue, 04/26/2011 - 8:00am - 9:00am
Short Description:
The more things change... The latest WikiLeaks dump exposes the gulag at Guantanamo Bay.

The prison at Guantanamo Bay is a lingering blight of Bush's -- and now Obama's -- War on Terror. The latest WikiLeaks dump exposes the flimsy evidence on which some people are still being held, and the apparent indifference with which others were released. And once again, the documents confirm that torture is an accepted instrument of U.S. foreign policy. Abe and Joe sift through the leaks and ponder whether the Bill of Rights will ever again be in vogue.

Tue, 04/05/2011 - 8:00am - 9:00am
Short Description:
At least they're consistent. Abe and Joe look at the GOP's latest assault on women.

They're as predictable as the tides. Back in control of the U.S. House and statehouses across the land, the Republicans have returned to their age-old crusade -- smacking down uppity women everywhere. Abe and Joe look at the landslide of new laws and pending legislation  that is chipping away at women's equality and reproductive rights.

In the end, though, it all down to the same old patriarchal song -- fear of sexuality and fear of women.
