“Tillicum Wawa” is a Chinook Jargon phrase which, loosely translated, means “The people speak”.
Chinook Jargon was a trade language used by Natives in this region before Europeans arrived here. It was a combination of Salish, Nootka, and Chinook languages. After explorers, traders, and other non-natives arrived in this area, French and English words were integrated into the jargon. It was widely used to communicate between people of different tribes, nationalities, and races.
That is why we chose the name. Tillicum Wawa is here to help represent the under-represented voice of the Native peoples of this nation. To be a “voice for the voiceless”.

Ed Edmo to Join Us on Tillicum Wawa, 12-23-10
On Thursday, December 23, "Tillicum Wawa: Voices of the People," interviewed local story teller Ed Edmo. Ed also brought down his son, John Edmo, who played us a few shogs. We discussed Ed's life, story telling, and how he felt around Celilo Falls when it was flooded by the U.S. government when he was just a kid. Ed told a couple of stories and read a few poems on the air as well.

Tillicum Wawa 12-16-10
"Tillicum Wawa: Voices of the People" has been made a regular program on KBOO which will air every Thursday from 6-7pm.
Our first show was a memorial to several acts of genocide and terror against Indians in the U.S. and an introduction to who we are: Shusli, Eugene, and Redwillow. We discussed briefly the massacre at Yontocket in Northern California against the Tolowa in 1853, the Wounded Knee Massacre which happened in 1890 to the Lakota peoples, and the Cherokee Trail of Tears.
Since we are now a regular program, we thought it would be a good idea to let you all know a little about who we are, so we gave a bit of our personal histories and played our favorite songs as well.
We look forward to serving the people and the community at large. We will do our best to create good radio to help one and all interconnect with each other and understand who we Indians are today.

Iokepa and Inette: Grandmothers Whisper
Tillicum Wawa interviewed Iokepa and Inette on Thursday, November 25. This amazing couple hail out of Hawaii, Iokepa being a Native Hawaiian and a spiritual leader, Inette his Jewish wife, are in the midst of a journey across the U.S. for what they call Return Voyage. Inette's book, "Grandmothers Whisper" is now available. The book is about the early part of her journey with Iokepa. This wonderful couple have lived on the beach in Hawaii for 10 years, and plan to go back soon.
As well, Eli Baseler played ukele on this show. Thank you all. The show was coordinated by Shusli, and this was the best show I have ever participated in.
As well, John Talley of the former program "Indian World" dropped by and asked a few questions.

We are excited to announce our guest on this week's episode of "Indian Country", Fri. 6-11-10, will be the great flute player Charles Littleleaf !!! He is a world renown flutest and flute maker, from the Warm Springs Reservation here in Oregon.
