The Crazy Fun of Late Night Radio comes to Monday afternoons! A lively mix of Jazz, Swing, Classic Rock, Space Age Lounge Music, Modern Folk, Blues, and more from both CD and Vinyl! Local  and Touring Bands often drop by the studio to play live.  Special Guestsalso stop by, or call in,  to talk about Upcoming Performances, Happening Events, Movies, DVDs, Comic Books, CD Releases, Cartoons, and other High Trash, Art & Culture! Hosted second through fourth or fifth Mondays by that Over 40 Teenage Werewolf, Fortunato, assisted by Audio Pilots Captain Jon, Just Jess, and Dev L, The All-Hearing Ear.

So, to give us a break from the hot weather, not that we don't love the hot weather, Fortunato will cool things off with a 'Xmas In July' presentation of Winter Wonderland Music on part of today's show!  DK and Mona will also drop by to talk about current movies and television shows. It's the talk show that stops talking to listen to music, the music show that stops playing music to have a conversation.

First off,  pinball fanatics Keith and Issac tell us about an upcoming pinball tournament, and an app that Issac has developed for your Iphone, so you and you friends can hold your own competitions at your favorite tavern. Film critics, DK and Mona discussed The Heat, Pacific Rim and The Lone Ranger. We also recommended some Rainy Day Vacation DVDs.

 A recently recorded interview with Joanne Rand, Touring nationally for a quarter of a century, she continues to push the pedal to the floor, releasing her 13th CD “Nashville Sessions. Rand has appeared with the likes of Bonnie Raitt, Bob Weir, John Harford and recently earned a BFA in Music Composition.

Peter Mulvey talks with Ed Mellnik on touring and songwriting.  Featuring his new cd -  The Good Stuff a Standards record collection, including songs of Tom Waits, Jolie Holland, and Leonard Cohen and many others.

River Twain visits the KBOO studio for a live chat about their new CD project. River Twain is a duo made up

of  Portland artists Gus Reeves and Brad Wager.

Members of Portland's largest street band, All the Apparatus stopped by the station to play some tracks off of their CD and to tell us about their up coming show on July 5th at The Doug Fir.. DK and Mona had a long talk with Fortunato about what movies have opened this week, and their opinion on Man of Steel. And we did stumped them for once with a Mystery Movie Theme. We even let Pinball Keith lose on the turntables for a short set and worked in some Bob and Ray.

Followed by an exciting mix of electric and accoustic music of Milo Hayden, or, as he is known on Soundcloud, Mister Moo. Portland's beloved cartoonist David Chelsea wil also be dropping by to tell us about his new book  Everybody Gets It Wrong!

Some great electronic music on today's show. First, two Parisian lads who have settled here in Portland, Exotic Club. And, up from the Bay Area, the amazing Metal Mother.  Who are appearing in town together later this week, but came here to the Sampler to preview how rockin' and cosmic their show will be. Meanwhile, Sabrina has fired up her van and dropped  Fortunato and Pinball Keith  over by SE 12th and Hawthorne, to look at some old and new pinball machines. Where they'll meet up with, former computer designer for Williams Pinball, Greg Dunlap. It all proved to be fun and educational.

Chris Kokesh and LJ Booth join host Ed Mellnik

Chris Kokesh and LJ Booth join host Ed Mellnik on KBOO’s new Singer/Songwriter edition of The Monday Sampler June 3rd, 2pm to 4pm.

Kokesh is perhaps best known as the fiddle player with the band Misty River that played in the Northwest for 15 years.  Booth is a songwriter originally from Wisconsin who SING OUT! called “a master craftsman of incredibly profound songs.”  Booth transplanted to the Rose City when he and Kokesh married in 2012.

Kokesh has quickly earned a reputation as an engaging solo performer, as well as a versatile fiddle player and harmony singer.  She released her first full-length solo effort October Valentine in 2010, debuting on the Folk DJ charts at #20.

 Dennis Nyback and Anne Richardson, from the prestigious Cartoon Institue, came by to tell us about the upcoming special event at the Hollywood Theater honoring local filmmaker, and singer/songwriter Harry Smith. Setting up to play live in Studio One for the first hour, was Shut Your Animal Mouth. Our old friends Hopeless Jack and the Handsome Devil came in with some track from their up coming CD. We had a nice call from Pokey Lafarge, who was coming to town with his new band.

Excerpts from The Monday Sampler's Labor Day Show. Besides our annual 'back of the studio cook out', host Fortunato welcomes Irish folk singers Colleen Raney and Casey Neill to our studio.  Both were going to perform with their own bands at the upcoming Muddy Boot Festival that upcoming weekend in SE Portland . Also, guitarist Dorian Michael , who was away from his central California home touring the NW, came by to perform some of his original compositions on the guitarand the ukalale.

Folk and blues guitarist Dorian Michael talked to us on the phone last week. We talked about his upcoming appearances around the Pacific Northwest, his music background growing up in the blues/folk scene in L.A., and even about tuning guitars and the different types of woods used in making the instruments. But because we were a bit carried away with our show of Movie Soundtracks and TV Themes, we could only air part of the interview.
