DJ Sol Rising began DJing at the age of 16 out of his parents’ basement, deep in the corn fields of Iowa. Out of his love for hip-hop music and the desire to be involved in the culture, Sol Rising taught himself how to scratch and mix by watching videos of old competitions and emulating DJs such as Craze and A-Trak. Despite the lack of DJ culture in a town of only 10,000 people, Sol Rising’s passion carried him to place in some of the most reputable DJ competitions in the world at the age of twenty-one, only four years into his career. Since then, Sol Rising’s sets have morphed into an eclectic mix of world, electronica, hip-hop, funk, soul, reggae, house, and turntablism.

Comprised of the musical talents of Matt Madonna and Ryan Anderson, Love and Light hails from the high desert region of the Reno/Tahoe Basin. Creating music that touches their hearts and elevates their souls, the duo's goal is the uplifting of people across the world through melodic synth lines, complex chord structure, intricate rhythms, and funky, chunky bass lines. Though having a strong focus on midtempo bass music, their span of producing talents are limitless, crossing into the realms of melodic dubstep as well as half-time drum and bass and four-on-the-floor bangers. Whether it is sweaty club, a beautiful outdoor festival setting or enjoying a night at home in the lab, Love and Light music moves humans in a vibrant and deeply conscious way.

"The lyrical style is acrobatic and joyfully disjointed—think Aesop Rock meets Busta Rhymes—while the subject matter owes far more to the post-apocalyptic claustrophobia found on Funcrusher Plus than to the more ubiquitous ride-or-die ethos of The Chronic. In cinematic terms, it eschews the tragic braggadocio of Scarface for a universe that is decidedly Blade Runner in its subterranean futurism." - Ryan Feigh (Portland Mercury) http://www.portlandmercury.com/portland/hive-mind/Content?oid=3300085

"It’s psychedelic rap, and in tandem with a pair of earbuds and Gavin Theory’s woozy, drum-’n’-bass-inspired beats, there’s enough here to trip you the fuck out." - Casey Jarman (Willamette Week)

Lucas Dix and Gavin Theory began their lives taught to be wary of each other's village's clan. Lucas Dix was born to the Claud Six people, green thumbed ground tillers of the sunny Eastern Valley, while Gavin Theory was born to the Mysterioso people, sky travelers of the shadowy Northern Slopes. The two villages had long been at odds because of their conflicting ideologies. The Mysteriosos were nocturnal beings who spent their time either tracking the movement of the stars or exploring space in meticulousy designed crafts of glass and metal, always eager to learn new things about the Universe and themselves. The little attention they paid to Earth was merely to hunt for sustenance or to collect materials to fuel further exploration. This directly clashed with the very pleasant and simple lifestyle of the Claud Six people, who woke early to reap, sew, and create from their numerous cultivated plants. Once their work was done, they would relax with each other and sip their fine ales, eat extravagant feasts, smoke their herbs and sing songs into the evening. The only real similarities between the neighboring cultures was that they shared a small lake as their only source of fresh water and both had a love for language and the spoken word. The Mysteriosos were renouned engaging storytellers and had become great at conversing with many different types of people on their adventures, while the Claud Six people were extremely open and understanding people who communicated all day to one another, and had gotten to know each other intimately. They were also well liked and trusted by all who talked to them.

TIPPER - Featured Artist

Tipper makes music for sound systems, with a diversity that ranges from bass fuelled electro-breaks, to hip-hop, to intricately programmed downtempo, to full orchestral compositions etc; music that demands to be played at high volumes to unleash their lethal potential. With a musical background in classical training, and listing influences from drum & bass, to hip-hop, to electronica, Tipper has created his own brand of devastating dancefloor bombs and after club ear-teasers. He is admired for being "streaks ahead," and his "expertly crafted" productions are dubbed as being "frightening yet refreshingcif it doesn't move you check for a pulse."

Tipper has also been heavily experimenting with "surround sound", and the possibilities of taking sound to new levels. After many hours of tweaking, Tipper has just completed his latest album "SURROUNDED." Mixed in a 5.1 studio in Los Angeles, he has created a whole new listening experience, with melting melodies, intricate programming, and sounds that circle you in a teasing and sometimes disorienting manner. Once again, Tipper ventures into new ground with this album, keeping it in the downtempo arena and exploring a wide range of styles that flow effortlessly and seamlessly from start to finish.

Dave Tipper

Not surprisingly this unique and effective sound is in high demand. Tipper has remixed a host of artists including such emissaries as Leftfield, Grooverider, S.I. Futures, mu-ziq, Headrillaz, and the seminal Africa Bambaata. He has released 9 singles and 2 albums through labels Fuel, Higher Ground and Sony; he has also written for the Renault Laguna and Board X TV advertising campaigns.

As a DJ/performer his prestigious talents are well respected throughout the breaks scene and beyond. In a recent pole for DJ magazine he was voted ahead of fellow breaks luminaries Hyper, Rennie Pilgrem, Freq Nasty and BLIM. His fluent mixing and remarkable scratching skills have secured him gigs throughout the world.

2001 and 2002 both proved to be busy years for Tipper. With the mix compilation 'Sound Off' released in May 2001; his album 'Holding Pattern' released in October the same year backed up by single releases 'Tug Of War,' 'Furlong,' and "Donut," Dave has been creating storms on dancefloors and fields alike. In February 2002 he completed a mini-tour of Australia, followed by a summer tour of the USA which took in the Fusion Festival, San Francisco, Seattle, Vancouver and the infamous Burning Man Festival. He has just completed recent gigs throughout Europe and the U.K. as part of the 'Sound Off' promotional tour alongside fellow breakz assassins Buckfunk 3000, Cold Fusion Mafia and Salim Rafiq.

And with the advent of 2003, his relentless work-ethic continues with another round of forthcoming tours of both Australia and the USA; a new single release for Fuel, exclusive tracks for their next 'Sound Off' compilation; and the release of his 5.1 "SURROUNDED" album in April 2003. He has been dubbed "the future of electronic dance music," and "the best breaks DJ in the world" by some industry insiders and fellow artists. And all at the ripe old age of 25! The sky is the limit, and this time around Australia - there will be "no holds barred."

Dave Tipper, a highly respected British Nu School Breaks producer and sonic innovator, co-founded London-based Fuel Recordings in 1996. A nimble-fingered turntablist, he owns one of the loudest automobiles in the world: a modified 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T capable of pumping out over 150 decibels. His recent live shows have incorporated both the bass-filled upbeat and the downbeat material.

Featured artist - Random Rab

"Emerging from his own distinct corner of the West Coast electronic music scene, Random Rab offers a powerful, timeless contribution to sonic exploration. Rab is a master of manipulating our temporal awareness, leading us into seemingly ancient worlds, where to our amazement, we find visible shreds of the future. Allow his sound to catalyze your travels into haunting ecstasy, and you will not return to your same beginning. Playing only his own originally produced music live, the depth and craftsmanship of this offering is remarkable. With an array of drum machines, samplers, sequencers, and instruments, it is a clear devotion to expression and perfection. The beats are smooth, bold, and overwhelming. The original vocals, melodies and hitting bass merge seamlessly into a tapestry of unique and unexpected journeys."

The Melting Pot 6-9-09 Featured Artist ***SHPONGLE***

Dongle and Mongle are the only two other words rhyming with Shpongle...a strange hybrid of electronic manipulation and shamanic midgets with frozen digits squeezing the envelope and crawling through the doors of perception, find a new pair of dice...extra numbers and colours an infinite expanding bubble, filled with a bizzare, strange world of dripping halucinatory wallpaper, a garden of earthly delights...........Shpongleland.....a place of well being, and reflective surfaces, morphing like an Anacondas skin and shimmering like a million colour changing squid, at fifty fathoms.. truly unfathomable like seperating water from it's wetness, the Ineffable Mysteries unweave .....
After this years performance at the OZORA festival in August, comes a brand new show at the Roundhouse in London on October 30th 2009 for the worldwide launch of the spectacular new album from Shpongle 'Ineffable Mysteries from Shpongleland'. Copies will be available on the night...the first editions ever on the planet and 2 weeks before any shops or download sites, make sure you're there to get your copy ! Tickets are now on sale.

(TWSCD36) Shpongle 'Ineffable Mysteries from Shpongleland' coming....not so soon on Twisted.
(TWSDVD002) Shpongle 'Live at the Roundhouse 2008'.....coming slightly sooner on Twisted !Shpongle (pronounced /ˈʃpɒŋɡəl/) is a psychedelic downtempo or Psybient music project. The core members are Simon Posford (aka Hallucinogen) and Raja Ram (one third of The Infinity Project), but they often collaborate with other artists. Their sound has sampled eastern ethnic instruments and western contemporary synthesizer-based psychedelic music. Posford is responsible for the synth and studio work while Raja Ram contributes with flutearrangements.

The name "Shpongle" is not a dictionary recognized word; it is derived from a rumor that Raja Ram was asked at a party how he was feeling, to which he replied, "I feel... Shpongled".

Shpongle's first track, Vapour Rumours, was released on TIP Records' Infinite Excursionscompilation in 1996.[1] Their debut album, Are You Shpongled?, was released 1998 onTwisted RecordsAre You Shpongled? and Twisted Records' first downtempo compilation,...and the Day Turned to Night, were influential in the then-small psychedelic downtempo genre.

In January 2007, Twisted Records announced that a fourth Shpongle album was being recorded, to be released in early 2009. The current projected release date is mid November 2009.[2] The album will be named "Ineffable Mysteries from Shpongleland" and will have the catalogue number TWSCD36.[3]

Balkan beatbox - Featured artistIsraeli saxophonist Ori Kaplan has been a fixture on New York City's downtown music scene since the early 1990s, playing with gypsy punk band Gogol Bordello and the ethno-garage outfit Firewater. He and Firewater drummer/producer Tamir Muskat split off in 2005 to form Artist. As the name suggests, their music is highly danceable, and takes the melting pot approach of the members' previous bands to the next level, giving the traditional sounds of various Middle Eastern and Eastern European styles an au courant electronica polish. A bit hipper than most world fusion acts, the duo (who perform live with a large ensemble of guest musicians) don't just graft traditional sounds to modern--they have alchemized a style all their own.

Blow up my facebook if you want to.
"Sean Hankins" in Eugene

Craig Burk

It's Craig. I used to host a Sunday evening show and we met one time at the studio.I am interested in how you layer the sounds. I found some of the CDs on your 2/10 playlist on Amazon but now have to assume you were layering tracks. Curious about your playlist. On 2/10, I tuned in at about 9:30 and was very impressed despite my hither-to strong reservations about much electronica. You created a really a nice mix that was not dragged down by a too-obvious 4/4 beat. (I can't handle too much 4/4 on floor.) Will send my email address to you via your name since KBOO may not be OK with my posting it here.

Where is the playlist for 2/10/09

Where is your playlist for tonight. The last 30 minutes or so were pretty good and countered my belief that the beat stuff can be pretty much "you get the point after about two minutes."

GSAF Music

You have been *totally* killing it for the last twenty minutes. Thank you for the music.

Kick ass Beats J

Lovin your show!!!! Thanks for being a voice for our community!!! Peace, Tluv
