A Novel performed with music and poetry.

Join Dmae Roberts  for a poetry/percussion performance of Only Ghosts by Carrie-Ann Tkaczyk. This is a original retelling of Tkacyk's novel set set during the democratic revolution in Nepal. Performers include the Tkacyk and poet A. Molotkov along with 20 percussionists including Bruce Bartlett, Charlie Kersch, Ragon Linde, and Prasanna Dhoj Pradhan.

In the sultry jungles of Nepal, modern and ancient desires beat. When a stranger comes to Batuwaa, the mystic and the modern clash. Voices, percussion music, and story meld into the pulse of a mysterious pool, Bhoot Pool: the place the villagers of Batuwaa fear; the place the forbidden are free to love.

This is a special one-hour edition with Dmae Roberts talking with Allen Nause, artistic director of Artists Repertory Theatre and Paul Nicholson, executive director of the Oregon Shakespeare Festival. Both men are theatre icons contributing decades to their theatre companies. Nause is retiring from Artists Rep after the 2013 season and this is Nicholson's final season at OSF. We'll hear about this year's season of plays and talk about their artistic legacies.

Dmae Roberts records a personal concert with The Julians, a female genre-defying quartet. This new Portland group blends contemporary song, jazz, Indian pop tunes and classical choral music to create their own style of powerhouse singing. Kristin Buhler, Liz Bacon, Maria Karlin and Vakare Petrolinaite are four hard-working classically trained singers who regularly sing with a variety of Portland groups. For the last year, they’ve been rehearsing and singing their own unique sound as The Julians.

Exploring Mixed Race with three actors at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival

For the last year, Dmae Roberts has been working on a documentary about Mixed Race artists and discussions of race through the arts.  The Oregon Shakespeare Festival has long been on the forefront of multicultural plays and color-blind casting. 

Dmae talked with three actors at OSF: Demetra Pittman,Joshua Wolf Coleman and Soneela Nankani.

Dmae Roberts talks with Portland Actors Ensemble. 

Last weekend was also the opening of Portland Actors Ensemble’s Shakespeare in the Parks series…more than 30 years strong.  Each year this ensemble brings Shakespeare to all in Portland metro area parks… we’ll hear about this seasons two shows …  Dmae Rpberts talks with Asae Dean, director of "Julius Caesar" and Michael Godsey who plays Brutus and Sara Fay Goldman who plays Portia.  Also being interviewed is Margaret Darling Lillie, co-producer of "Two Gentleman of Verona"

And in the latter part of the show…we’ll hear about Mixed Race artists from Dmae's work in progress documentary “In the Mix” … then a roundup of some other events in town…
