Dmae talks with three powerhouses of Portland theatre, Elizabeth Huffman, Luisa Sermol and Lorraine Bahr. They're collaborating on favorably reviewed production of Mary Stuart a Portland premiere of an adaptation about the doomed Queen of Scots and her fabled meeting with Queen Elizabeth I.  The show runs through March 29th and is a co-production of Northwest Classical Theatre Company and Cygnet Productions.

In 2012, women accounted for 9% of directors working in the top 250 films, according to Women Make Movies.  Clearly women in filmmaking have a ways to go for equal opportunities to work in the industry. One organization working to change that bleak statistic for women in media is the Portland Oregon Women's Film Festival or POWFest. Dmae talks with executive director Tara Johnson-Medinger.

Dmae profiles guitarist and singer Parfait Bassale who is about to debut his new EP of original songs. Originally from West Africa, Bassale weaves joyous guitar melodies with his intricate vocals. He often sings about his experiences and introspections of immigrant dreams and daily life.  Bassale performs live and debuts some of his new songs on the EP. He also tells about the Columbe Project, his peace education program for youth.

For the last year, Dmae Roberts has been working on a documentary about Mixed Race artists and discussions of race through the arts.  The Oregon Shakespeare Festival has long been on the forefront of multicultural plays and color-blind casting.

Last weekend was also the opening of Portland Actors Ensemble’s Shakespeare in the Parks series…more than 30 years strong.  Each year this ensemble brings Shakespeare to all in Portland metro area parks… we’ll hear about this seasons two shows …  Dmae Rpberts talks with Asae Dean, director of "Julius Caesar" and Michael Godsey who plays Brutus and Sara Fay Goldman who plays Portia.  Also being interviewed is Margaret Darling Lillie, co-producer of "Two Gentleman of Verona"

And in the latter part of the show…we’ll hear about Mixed Race artists from Dmae's work in progress documentary “In the Mix” … then a roundup of some other events in town…
