Each week Dmae Roberts talks with performing, literary and media artists from the Portland Metro area as well as around the Northwest.  As a two-time Peabody award-winning radio producer and writer, Roberts brings national quality to regional arts scene. Sherman highlights Portland's jazz history during the 1940s-50s, a high point of jazz when a growth of African American families moved into the North Williams Ave.

Special Membership Edition with "Bridge of the Gods"

Host Dmae Roberts presents a membership edition of Stage & Studio featuring Native American Storyteller Ed Edmo from Tears of Joy Theatre's "Bridge of the Gods." This play tells the tale of the legendary Klickatat version of the fight between two chieftain brothers that caused the great land bridge in the Columbia Gorge to fall. "Bridge of the Gods" is written by Ed Edmo featuring poetry by Elizabeth Woody and designed by Lillian Pitt. The show runs Friday Feb. 4th through 13th.

Dmae will be offering two family packs of tickets and a pair of tickets to the show.

Tonya Jone Miller's solo show, Writers Read segment & a salute to Chinese New Year

Host/Producer Dmae Roberts continues coverage of the Fertile Ground festival of new work with Tonya Jone Miller and her solo show "Threads: The True Story of an Indiana Farm Girl in Viet Nam." We also debut the new "Writers Read" segment with Katherine Emlen of Eugene, OR. And in the latter part of the show Dmae tells us what makes a traditional Chinese New Year.

As part of the Fertile Ground Festival, Tonya Jone Miller debuts her solo show about her mother's experiences who went to teach English in Saigon during the height of the Viet Nam war. Using her mothers interviews, she s"threads" together how human beings are connected to each other in small and large ways.

"In The Mix: Conversations with Artists...Between Races" by Dmae Roberts is a radio exploration of Mixed Race. Through the voices of artists who have dedicated their lives to building bridges and bringing to light interracial issues and themes, Roberts takes us on a journey to understanding what means to be of Mixed Race.

Dmae Roberts focuses on the writers studio and talks with Benjamin Parzybok about his debut book, Couch: A Novel published by Small Beer Press.  Benjamin Parzybok is the creator of Gumball Poetry, a (now defunct) journal published through gumball machines, the Psychic Book Project and the Black Magic Insurance Agency, a city-wide mystery/treasure hunt. His projects have twice been selected as Best of Portland for the Willamette Week: "Best Guy Who Walks His Talk" and "Best Quarter's Worth of Culture."
