Faux Museum Closes + Best highlights from SNS!

Faux Museum is closing its doors soon & Best Highlights of 2014
Dmae talks with Tom Richards the curator of the Faux Museum, a conceptual art museum that boasts the world's last living Woolly Ant. The Faux Museum won't be renewing it's lease and will be closing its doors on Jan. 11, 2015 after two years of often offbeat and humorous exhibits created to spark critical thinking.  Since 2012 exhibits have included the "Tour de Faux!" bike event, "10,000 Years of Faux History," "The Liars Hall of Shame" and the "Monument of the 7th Dimension: Portal." We'll find out more about why Richards has been working on this dadaist art museum as performance art piece since 1991.

Dong's 1989 film aired on PBS' American Experience program.  Now 25 years later, he put together a comprehensive document of photos and stories from the original performers from 1936-1970. Host Dmae Roberts talks features two original shows in different disciplines. First up, artistic director Samantha Van Der Merwe of Shaking The Tree Theatre talks about creating an adaptation of Edgar Allan Poe's "Masque of the Red Death" with the writer so Playwright's West.  Joining her is actor Matthew Kerrigan (featured in the photo) who will perform a monologue as Poe from the play.

'O Romeo' at Miracle Theatre & 'New Now Wow' at NW Dance Project
What would October be without a Day of the Dead celebration? Dmae Roberts checks in Olga Sanchez, artistic director of Miracle Theatre who has put together a new Dia de los Muertos meets Shakespeare's famous dead characters. We'll find out which Shakespearean character Sanchez has brought back to life (sort of) in this inventive concept. It's all part of Portland's 400th year anniversary committment to produce all of Shakespeare's sworks within two years. And in the second part of the show, Sarah Slipper artistic director of NW Dance Project fill us in on "New Now Wow" - three piece created by  world-class master choreographers including Portland's Minh Tran.

Milagro Theatre's new eco-drama and a controversial Chinese touring group

Dmae Roberts focuses on the writers studio and talks with Benjamin Parzybok about his debut book, Couch: A Novel published by Small Beer Press.  Benjamin Parzybok is the creator of Gumball Poetry, a (now defunct) journal published through gumball machines, the Psychic Book Project and the Black Magic Insurance Agency, a city-wide mystery/treasure hunt. His projects have twice been selected as Best of Portland for the Willamette Week: "Best Guy Who Walks His Talk" and "Best Quarter's Worth of Culture."
