In a special 11:30am edition of Stage & Studio, Dmae Roberts talks with POV Dance about an unuusal dance and multimedia installation performance in the historic landmark building Leftbank.

POV Dance returns to the Portland dance scene this winter with 3x3, an originalarchitecturally-based work of contemporary dance, set in the three integrated buildings of The Leftbank Project.
 
Located at the bustling NE end of the Broadway Bridge, Leftbank is a historic landmark that has housed a succession of businesses, most notably the iconic 1940s Dude Ranch jazz club. In 2008, meticulously reimagined and restored after years of vacancy, Leftbank opened its doors to reclaim its spot as a hub of creativity and culture.

Dmae Roberts features playwright David Henry Hwang, Tony award-winning author of M. Butterfly, Dance and the Railroad and Chinglish which soon opens on Jan. 11-Feb. 9 at Portland Center Stage.  For the last 30 years, Hwang's career has spawned opera projects with Phillip Glass and musical theatre adaptions like Disney’s Aida with Elton John and Tarzan with Phil Collins, but he generally gravitates to “the same patch of soil”—as he calls it—of Asian and Asian American themes.

Dmae Roberts presents Talking With The Wind: The Mystery of Opal Whiteley, a half-hour documentary on Opal Whiteley, of a young woman from Cottage Grove, Oregon who became the center of an international controversy.

In 1920 she published a childhood diary about her time in the woods and her love of nature. The Story of Opal: The Journal of an Understanding Soul” was the #2 bestseller that year, following Sinclair Lewis’ “Mainstreet.” The diary became wildly popular and then was later condemned as a hoax.

Naseem Rakha & debut novel "The Crying Tree"

Imago Theatre's Simple People
