Dmae Roberts talks with two theatre companies featuring professional holiday youth productions: Seeds of Hope at Do Jump! and Peter Pan at Northwest Children's Theatre & School. We'll hear from director Aaron Wheeler-Kay at Do Jump! and co-founder managing director Judy Kafoury at NWCT.

Seeds of Hope at Do Jump! is as a tale of a teenage girl whose carefree summer is rocked by a stunning turn of events. Interwoven is the mythic tale of Pandora opening her box of chaos and unleashing a physical collage of aerial dance, acrobatics & song. Seeds of Hope weaves together our shared experiences to explore themes of change, optimism and hope.

Appalachian Christmas Celebration

Tune in Tues Dec. 4th at 11am on KBOO 90.7FM for a look at Portland Revels Appalachian Christmas. We'll hear about this yearly tradition of presenting the music and dance of traditions around the world. 

Around the country there's a tradition of Revels which is a season celebration of holiday traditions during Christmas. Portland Revels has been bringing a yearly celebratory performance each year set in different countries. This year the Christmas Revels brings music and dance of mid-1800s Appalachia featuring a chorus of more than 70 to reenact an Appalachian village with carols, spirituals and clogging.

Rupa and the April Fishes

Join Guest Producer and Host Sarika Mehta for a special on gifted singer and activist Rupa Marya, the lead vocalist and director of Rupa and the April Fishes. Their music encompasses elements of jazz, blues, klezmer, folk amongst others, with songs in Spanish, French and English. Rupa herself was born in India, grew up in France and San Francisco, and uses her music to give voice to her experiences.

Dmae Roberts presents a preview of her memoir-in-progress, Lady Buddha and the Temple of Ma, a multicultural memoir.  She reads an excerpt that answer the question often asked of Mixed Race people: "How did your parents meet?"

Dmae will be reading/performing another excerpt at Lewis and Clark for their Multicultural Symposium on November 11th at 7-8pm. It’s a free event part of “Mixed: The Politics of Hybrid Identities” symposium. Dmae's reading and performance will be at the Templeton Campus Center, Council Chamber.
