Author Alan Greenberg & his new book about working with Werner Herzog

Dmae Roberts talks with screenwriter and director Alan Greenberg. He’s written a new memoir titled Every Night the Trees Disappear: Werner Herzog and the Making of ‘Heart of Glass‘about his collaboration with Wernor Herzog.

Heart of Glass, Herzog’s 1976 film, has been described as one of the strangest narrative films in history in which Herzog hypnotized all the actors. The film has also been hailed as an early Herzog masterpiece. Without a doubt the filming was an adventure and challenged the way many films have been done since.

Dmae Roberts presents a membership drive edition of Stage & Studio featuring Olga Sanchez of Miracle Theatre. She starring in a daring new play based on the Greek myth Oedipus in Oedipus El Ray.

With Chicano swagger and sly sense of humor, Luis Alfaro transports Sophocles’ tragedy to the mean streets of East L.A. Here Oedipus does hard time for ripping off a Costco, Jocasta splashes on the Jean Naté while glued to “All My Children” and the oracle takes cash only. But the word on the street is not good and the passion Oedipus has for one woman will violate our most sacred law.

Opal Whiteley Doc by Dmae

Talking With The Wind: The Mystery of Opal Whiteley, a half-hour documentary on Opal Whiteley, of a young woman from Cottage Grove, Oregon. In 1920 she published a childhood diary about her time in the woods and her love of nature. It became wildly popular and then was later condemned as a hoax. This diary created an international controversy that led to her eventual decline in mental health.

 Dmae Roberts co-produced this with Playwright Dorothy Velasco in 1988 with music by John Doan. It also contains a clip from the only known recording of Opal Whiteley before she died in 1992.

Hearing Voices Storytelling Festival

She talked with Heather Waisanen of Garden Home Community Library, Tom Johnson of Brody Theater (Portland) and Nelda Reyes of Nuestro Canto (Beaverton). The festival also features Oregon Shadow Puppet Theater (Portland) and runs for one week from April 11-18,  the Washington County Cooperative Library Services hosts this sixth annual storytelling Festival as part of National Library Week.

Dmae Roberts talks with director Philip Cuomo and actor JR Wickman about Theatre Vertigo's "God's Ear" a play by Jenny Schwartz. The play is an absurdist linguistically playfull work that focuses on a couple dealing with the loss of their child. Also featured is the music of Taiwan's U-Theatre drumming and dance ensemble. The group's show "Songs of the Bodhisattva is presented by Whitebird Dance.

Portland Taiko's The Way Back Home

Oregon Shakespeare Festival's 75th Anniversary

Dmae Roberts presents "Oregon Treasures" - the first in a new series of features about veteran artists and arts organizations. The inaugural piece features the 75th anniversary of the Oregon Shakespeare Festival in Ashland.  

One of the largest regional theatres in the country is located in a town of more than 21,000 people. With a budget of about $27 million dollars a year, the Oregon Shakespeare Festival is the only theatre in the country that performs two different plays a day on three different stages 10 months of the year.  While nonprofit theatres struggle financially, OSF finished the 2009 season in the black largely due to the loyalty of its audience and quality of its work. This year OSF celebrates its 75th anniversary.  Independent Producer Dmae Roberts went to the opening in Ashland, Oregon and produced this piece for Stage and Studio.
