News and Public Affairs Day

This Friday on KBOO, it’s News and Public Affairs Day, a full day special which will include a live broadcast from the Occupy Portland encampment, analysis of the movement to hold the richest one percent accountable, and a look at what we can learn from police infiltration and crackdowns on past movements.

Tune in Friday morning beginning at 7 am with Democracy Now, with a live broadcast from Occupy Portland beginning at 10 am.

In the afternoon, we’ll examine the case of earth liberation front prisoner Daniel McGowan with never-before heard footage on the FBI’s targeting of environmental activists. We’ll also look at the use of FBI infiltrators/provocateurs at the 2008 Republican Convention.

And at 6:30, we’ll hear a discussion of whether ethanol really can be an alternative energy source to replace our dependence on oil.

From 9 am to 2 pm, it’s KBOO’s special program on the 2011 Village Building Convergence.

9 am – KBOO’s Chris Andreae hosts a call-in show with Village Building Convergence organizers Hanna Poier, Eddie Hooker and Matt Bibeau.

At 10, it’s a Forum on Legalizing sustainability, with Melora Golden, Joshua Klyber, Sukita Crimmel, Mark Lakeman and others.

At 11, we’ll have a live interview with Hannah Apricot, a local filmmaker who is currently working on a film about the Village Building Convergence.

Then at 11:15, we’ll hear from Jennifer Steckler, who helped launch a Village Building Convergence in Vermont.

At 11:30, Marisha Auerbach speaks on creative solutions to the global food crisis.

Scott Howard from Earthenhand joins us live at 12:15 to talk about cob and earthen building techniques.

At 12:45, we’ll hear about the project for National De-fence – not the military kind, but the de-fencing of our communities.

And at 1:15, it’s a talk by Michael Becker on how Permaculture can Transform Public Education.

Instead Chris Andreae interviews Susan Lindauer, a former Congressional staffer who served as a U.S. Intelligence Asset covering Libya and Iraq at the United Nations, as a back channel on matters of anti-terrorism from 1993 to 2002. In the summer of 2001, her team warned about a major terrorist attack involving airplane hijackings and a strike on the World Trade Center. She is the author of "Extreme Prejudice: The Terrifying Story of the Patriot Act and the Cover Ups of 9/11 and Iraq."
