chapters 4 and 5!

Hi again!  These chapters introduce my protagonist.  Yes, I stole the name from Garrison Keillor!  You're welcome, Garrison!

(Go down a few posts to start where you like in the book.  It's "Jeezus!," by the way.)

Praise Song Sitting in a Room

Categories:

In response to a remix call-out on WFMU's Beware of the Blog, I submitted my version of Elizabeth Alexander's ill-advised reading of her poem Praise Song for the Day. There are so many cool versions of this poem there - my favorites are Fatty Jubbo's manic reading where he channel's Elizabeth Claire Prophet, the one by Jonathan Wall's where he simply alphabetizes every word in the poem and People Like Us' language removal version. Mine was more or less a piss-take where I turned it into an avant-garde inside joke (with apology to Alvin Lucier).

Here it is:

chapter three already!

Want to start at the beginning?  Go down two more blogs.

In this chapter the "rapture" hits the cruise liner, and the libido hits the fan.

Todays show began with "Scetches of China" from The J.A. related album Baron Von Tollbooth and the Chrome Nun. Following "China" is three cuts from Grateful Dead live from the Euphoria Ballroom in San Francisco 7-14-70 acoustic. "Dire Wolf" preceded by some hilarious stage banter, "Dark Hollow", then "How Long Blues".  We then began again with Berkeley Greek 7-15-84 sbd. As you remember, we started 7-15-84 set one on 12-27-08. Plagued with digital disturbances, we decided to start the set over again on today's show. We got as far as "China Cat > I Know You Rider" in the second set.

I subbed for The Seamstress of Sound last Thursday evening and spent the night remixing and disassembling the inauguration and anything else that I came across.

We said goodbye to George, listened to bad poetry, some frightening and shockingly bigoted schizophrenic ranting from Francis E. Dec and played some of the new(ish) John Zorn album The Crucible.

Thanks for the requests! I’m always glad when it works out and I or KBOO actually have the songs that people want to hear. Dumpster Dave requested Buzzcocks’ “Ever Fallen In Love” and there just happened to be a live version in the KBOO library. He called back a little later to request The Clash’s “Armagideon Time”, and I was just about to play a different cut off The Clash - Live At Shea Stadium. Serendipity is what I think they call it.

And then there is the guy that calls weekly requesting Ministry’s “N.W.O” - he needs it to make his time at work go by faster. KBOO (and KPSU) used to get me through long evenings doing data entry for the post office, so I can totally relate.
